It's actually smoked acrylic, it's for the digital temp display. I goofed and I painted it accident. Luckily, customer sent me two top panels, so I had another to use. (slaps face) when you think about it tho, it's a slick feature by Alienware

@ Langer, PPG Automotive enamel paint is very durable, but the color, "Flat Black" is always susceptible to seeing fingerprints, marring. The color absorbs everything as you can tell. You need to clean it more often then other colors.
You have to be careful when handling it with oily fingers.

If you're seeing actual scratches in the paint, then you need to apply more clear or your paint hasn't fully cured before you handled it. fyi: Rattle can paint may be touchable 24 hrs later, but 100% curing takes around 30 days

Many thanks mate. I'll have to spray some tests, and acquire some proper PPG paint.

I quite like the counterpoint of the chrome bolt against the flat black washer and nut :naughty:

Heres a reference guide for the Alienware's bezel door and assembly

    Bezel door key lock
    [IMG]

Key lock assembly is held in with one nut
    [IMG]

Steel tumbler plate mounts beneath black plastic latch
    [IMG]

Black plastic latch fastens into key lock with machine screw
    [IMG]

Bezel door rear cover fastens on with 4x tappered screws, 2x holes for pwr/hd activity led lenses
    [IMG]

Bezel door attached to removable steel hinges, w/o back cover. Alienware logo led wire routes through hole in
    lower hinge.
