nice hardware and painting what OS are you planning on running? I found that linux worked better for the servers I ran as on windows the servers reg went off the more server aplications running and hitching started accouring wheras I had no such problem using ubuntu (even though its not rearly ment to be a server os).
at the moment im running win xp. the only thing is, i dont know what would be a good distro to use for a dedicated game server. i havent used linux much, but, please if you have any recomendations as to where to learn more, and more importantly a good distro that would help out lots. cheers
that is a nice shade of blue what are your plans for the front of the case something to match i hope?
right then! cheers for the comments guys, i think im about done on this. the only things i want to do are: - get the PSU powdercoated - move the led's - re-print the front logo so, some pictures of last nights work: psu in: lid on: front with fan installed, i did this by putting two bits of c-strip each side and then forcing it in, so its a wedged fan. sure i havent seen one of them before side on: as you can see, the front logo looks poo..... in the window: lights off! nearly finsihed! what do we think? gaz
If you have the time, go for something light, fast and optimized like Gentoo. Lacking that, go for Debian, it is a great server OS, and quite easy to install and maintain. Most games have a (free) dedicated Linux server install, which is mostly easy to install. But google will help you on that one.
Very nice work so far. Just one thing, you should spray the blue front part in the same color as the inside to match it. Everything else looks good!
The internal router/switch is awesome I might do that with one of mine. I love the colours too, only criticism is the window should have been larger.
looks very nice and i love the idea with the wrt installed in top of the case. i really think you should try linux as the OS. I'm a member of a big german lan-party organizer and i am responsible for the game-server. Debian is really easy to install and with apt you shouldn't have problems with installing programs. But a good kernel and kernel config is important, we use the newest vanilla kernel with the cks-patch. with this combination you should have a really fast system und the games should rune fine
great mod and paint job.... just a quicky one..... if this is going to be a gaming server what is the need of a video card...¿?
Nice mod man, liking the color of the case and the ideas you have come up with especially the built in router I thought that was quite clever.
I must say I like those almost horizontal ram slots, it would be cool if you could put some type of UV reactive heatsinks on them, that would look ace.
well, cheers muchy for the feedback guys, debian looks the way to go, so ill be sorting that asap. im currently moving the LEDS from the router to the front of the case via ribbon cable, ill get a pic soon. reason for the GFX - its so that if people want to use it at a lan its a spare - plus i can use it at home
