Thanks, everyone! I'll try to have the shelves installed soon so as to test mount the drives and pumps in the chamber.
Wow, this is looking much better than I anticipated. Still, I'm wondering if reflections in the acrylic will give away the illusion of zero gravity.
But hey, since you're using SSDs, you COULD go crazy and make a better zero gravity illusion by using magnetism. Just put a magnet in each corner of the SSD and some magnets placed strategically correct somewhere in the zero gravity chamber, keeping the SSD in place. It might sound far-fetched and crazy, but SSD disks should not be influenced by magnetism, so go for it! Or, you can go for the "Table tennis ball being held up floating on a air stream"-trick. This is even more crazy, hehe. Might be hard balancing either suggestion, though, but major respects in the modding community if you manage to pull it off. ;D
When properly lit, you won't be able to see the reflection that shows in that picture. That's another new twist that's yet to be revealed but will be soon.
I thought an SSD would be influenced by a magnet, not in terms of erasing data, but the magnetic field would induce a current in surrounding metal, which i assume would adversely affect the SSD
Small update, guys. I was able to get the shelves bent and installed so that I could test mount the pumps. The windows fit the XSPC res tops perfectly.
It's been a while since I've taken an E&M course...but from what I remember you don't induce a current unless you move the magnet. Also, you need a conducting loop to generate the current. With the SSD being essentially grounded to the case via mounting screws, you would see negligible current, if any.
I'm listening to Ghostbuster remixes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KWPx0QwhQg - the part that starts at 1:02 is cool!) when posting this reply, so bear over with me and my happiness, ok? This is looking AWESOME!!! I really can't wait to see it finishing. You should quit your day job to satisfy us all, haha. Moar pics, now!
Thank you very much, Validus. Hey, I love Ghostbusters. Both the movie and the PC game. I really do wish I could quit my day job and just do this. I'll dream of that happening one day... Until the next update, here are some more hardware pics.
Ok, that's just showing off... But seriously: way to go, man! Are those SSDs sponsored, or do you just happen to swim in a tank of money? Or do you have something to do with that US lottery millionaire that went missing last week? One last thing: weren't there supposed to be 8 SSDs? I seem to recall (too lazy to browse back) that there were 8 in your original renders....
Ah, just went back and had a look, anyway (feel like this build deserves at least 5 minutes of browsing, heh): That's FOUR! So, 2 too many. What are those 2 spare ones meant for? Prizes to the most active commenters on this build? I might aswell just give you my address now, then...
Neither. I swim in a tank of debt. And hopefully, I tread water long enough until this build is finished and it gains me enough recognition for sponsorship (a.k.a. DRY LAND) the next time around. Haha. I wish I could give them away, brother. Unfortunately, those other two are needed and are now installed in the renderbox that you see producing those nice renders. They won't be going into refleXion--just the 4 Vertex drives. No, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one day I will.
