I have someone that got a nasty virus on their computer and I got most of it off (System Guard 2009). But I am still having problems with it.

I did a manual removal of the virus because some of the main tools I use, I could not get to install or if I managed to get it installed, it wont run. For example HijackThis will flash the installer but then disappear. I managed to get it to install through a silent install in command line. But I could then not get it to run. The others were Procexp and Malwarebytes.

I have however been able to install and run Spy-Bot and AdAware.

Right now I have it plugged into a computer that was going to get wiped anyway with Malwarebytes running on it. But even if it finds anything I don't know it will fix this problem... Which it hasn't found anything yet (92,000 objects into the scan).

I was going to do an SFC as last resort. But it kept asking for the original XP CD, which I thought I had... but it refused it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Well its definitely a virus causing this. I had the drive plugged into another computer as I explained.

Now that computer is unable to lunch those applications. I cant even do web searches for them or the browser crashes. This sure is a nasty bugger.

    Run SDFix and ComboFix:

I would also run HijackThis and remove any IE toolbars or Browser Helper Objects (BHOs) and any Winsock layers, as they can cause problems with internet. If those don't work, run Avira virus scanner from the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm . Rootkits can get into your system and screw things up, and implant themselves using drivers that make them hard to remove.
