So,today im fitting the AQ waterblock. Puny heatsink, not going to withstand the multiple fans per channel that i need. Start by whipping off the PCB,got to be careful you dont damage the screen connector... Then the 3 HS screws are visible. This is what you should be left with Now,see the difference between the stock HS and the new waterblock? Even running the waterblock out of the loop would be a improvement on the stock unit,a much greater contact patch and mass makes sure of that. Annnnnd DONE! Sexy yes? ignore the watermarked pics,i forgot to change it over......
I got the same block and same Aquaero - I discovered that even just slightly overturning the screws on that block will make the PCB bend. I'm thinking of producing a backplate for this block. What are your thoughts on this?
There is a lot of contacts on the back of the PCB,dunno how well it would work. Cant hurt to try tho!
Roll on iSeries, let me know how you feel about that controller, considering trying one out eventually.
Definitely alot of foresight in this build I wouldn't have thought of changing the heatsink 'till I saw that nice little cloud of black smoke
I run the OCN WC thread so i see a lot of broken/burnt AQ5's without waterblocks and lots of fans..... 5.3 million views on that thread already! I draw the line at ram blocks tho....such a waste of time they are.....
You have inspired me to take the jump. SR-2 ordered. Gotta sweet deal from amazon.co.uk. Still trying to figure out a metal box or desk build. But another dual xeon joins the party.
Im sooooo glad i built it now,im enjoying the render power! http://www.overclock.net/t/1394697/scratch-build-prot07ype-ocn-exclusive-log/0_20 One extreme to the other.....
Haha. I'm leaning towards a desk build but sketchup and I dont see eye to eye. Trying to get used to autocad. I bought an asus g75vx with the 3d screen. So we will see how I get on. Its powerful enough for autocad. Planning on getting a pair of x56xx's as they are quite cheap on ebay now. I went with the sr-2 intsead of the sr-x as 2011 xeons way to steep. Allows me to go big on other hardware.
Yeah I've had fan controllers burn out on me before, amazingly it didn't kill my hardware, top of the CPU tower heat sink was scorching hot though, I'll always actively cool things like that now. Must be a really good thread.
B Looking as perty as ever- just hope you have more luck than me with the Aquaero which I did get the waterblock on and kept getting random issues with it to the point where I ripped it out of the system, hit it with a very large hammer and eventually used it to practice with my new shotgun that I got a few weeks ago
