Next 10 or so mounts i am thining will be this combination. i love prototyping :) by far the most fun part of the process. The pvc is VERy strong, however can an engineer tell me if its toxic to breath its fumes?

This is a pretty time efficient combination on the mountings (as compared to my earlier ones... the large 1 peice enclosures- NOT the ones from the first post) and SOMEWHAT cost efficient. (definately not like polyethylene lol ).

Im excited about this. no holes drilled in this yet sorry.

    regards

    Cool stuff :thumb:

I'm no expert but breathing fumes is generally bad, so no point taking the risk, get a mask.

    PVC is somewhat toxic...

A N95 or N100 mask should be sufficient, but for the same price get a P95 or P100 mask. If you want suggestions as to half-face respirators, let me know.

Or just use a fan and an open window for ventillation and you should be fine.

    hey!

thanks for info. I got very sick yesterday so started a thread in a machining forum and the general consensus was to avoid- I would much rather have my health and use a white mount :) (polyethylene and polycarbonate are the safest ones)

    Thanks very much guys :)

For future reference with material health concern, Google the MaterialSafetyDataSheet (eg: PVC MSDS). It'll tell you whether or not you're in any health danger.

thanks! and see tribals resevoir thread for history lol

heres a start to end of making the newest mount-
    [IMG]
I use the nice hitachi miter saw with a 60tooth dewalt blade- yes i have a horizontal bandsaw but the miter saw gets really nice 90 degree angles- however i wouldn't think of cutting copper or thick metal with this ( even with my high tooth blade)
hmm pretty accurate huh? 1.500" :)
Setting up on mill (x3 can handle up to 150lbs of accessories on the table- when im making lots of moutns at one time i have the rotary table off to the side and the 1-2-3 blocks and clamping setup.
1 done (IN ALL PICTURES YOU SEE NO DEBURRING HAS BEEN DONE- mine broke :( )
    milling :)

the 3 muffs are done :) lots of thought and design havee been going into my evaps and mountings in the past month or two, this is a lot closer to what i originally hoped then were i was at a couple months ago with my mountings. (4 hours on mounting that looked like crap... no thanks). maybe tonight but most likely 2maro ill finish up to tops do the mounts. These are mounts that will go with a first run of something i want to try- which i cannot say in public :p: )

Ill try to post more in action pictures next time- or you guys tell me what type of pictures you want.

no pics but i had a large bar of hdpe and cut it on miter saw
    [IMG]
and drilled it with my drilling jig
    [IMG]
    which saves me hours
    [IMG]
    Boring
    [IMG]
    finish- not bad :)

they are covered with oil and all dirty and not deburred- its midnight here not really in the mood to do that sorry. so please excuse that from the pics :)

brazed her up today- These i don't want to send to customers unbrazed- extremely hard to braze these. My goal with these is a cheap, brazed, cleaned, leak tested stepper evap. I started working a while ago on a new chemical that is great for cleaning evaps :) i am close to perfecting it. absolutely no hints! :p: i will say that i was missing one of the main ingredients but still came out great. (well... 1 hint- c l h )

had to braze and flip it over 3 times to get it proper- the vice serves as a heatsink to the lower half, i can get the top half hot enough to braze without having the lower part melt and still get a really good quality braze.
Also this is the importance of purging- you see the outside of the evap, and the stem of the evap(innards)? well the entire insides gets that black cr*p all in it if you do'nt purge (and this is how the insides are supposed to look :) )

base not lapped yet. I made a oops and the muffs for these are too big.......... need a larger snap ring (or redo the muffs hopefully not -_- )

very nice work, what kind of math have you done regarding the evaporators? I know there is typically formulas to determine length and size of capilary tube, or orifice size. What sort of refrigerants do you intend the blocks to be used with?

    hey!

formula's for metering devices are all guess- this is because it is not a liquid through the entire capillary tube (not too much experience with txv's, no real use on single stages) but towards the end is more of saturation. Equations are more in the arena of thermodynamics, i just have a very basic knowledge of it. Refrigerants i plan to use are r290, r402a, r507a :) or whatever customer wants if its for a customer.

    Thanks for posting :)

Actually, you can get a non-ferrous blade that will handle copper without a problem. It cuts copper, aluminum, plastic as smooth as butter.

    TCG saw blades link

I have the Freud Avanti TK706 and use it primarily for aluminum.

What are you using now? You said 60 teeth, but if it is made for cutting wood, with ATB tooth styling, you're it's the wrong type of blade for what you're using it for.

Anyhow, it's nice to see that things are progressing well!

    :eyebrow::wallbash:

The blade is for aluminum- im not sure if it could handle copper bar, do you? (the wallbash was because after many talks with machinists i decided to buy a horizontal bandsaw) the ideal machine would be a cold saw but i can't justify over $1k for this type of work.

    Thanks for the compliments!!!

alright this update is for adam/nol. we got in a friendly argument about who brazes and cleans evap better. So i brazed this and i cleaned for 5 minutes-literally- i will finish it up later. this evap is going in naekuh's unit.

First- drugs needed to have the energy for this.

jk, its my super secret mix for cleaning evaps. 3 parts solid 2 parts liquid. As you can see here, the base and sides are cleaned SUPER well but the top part and the step is not at all. this is what the cleaning fluid is for- helps tremendously with this.

See how well brazed it is too? i didnt' even leak test it before i cleaned it :p

SO NOL- SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!

A great modder/artist does not openly praise his/her own work - they wait for others to do it for them.

The sides do look nice, though!
