The real reason 9 was skipped. MS Exec #1 - "Our next release will be Windows 9" MS Exec #2 - "But MS Indonesia already announced 9 would be a free update for 8 & 8.1" MS Exec #1 - "Bugger that! We'll call it Windows 10 instead"
Silly question but is the win8 style start screen going to be available to users with a mouse and keyboard in win10?
If they want to, yes. Winrumors has just given its verdict: Windows 10 is too much like Windows 7. It's not innovative enough. Yes, really. Whereas Windows 8 was too different, Windows 10 is apparently not different enough, not catering enough to mobile devices. Meanwhile another article complained that the Start Menu might be too confusing for inexperienced computer users. Basically: Damned if Microsoft does, damned if Microsoft doesn't.
Nothing wrong with win8 if you took a few hours to sit down and learn how to use the new features it came with. I'm probably in the minority but I like using the start screen in win8.
Agreed. I have no qualms with Windows 8/8.1 at all. I've been using it since it was released in its beta stages, and I have grown quite fond of it. The addition of the straight to desktop mode was a plus for me as I prefer that sort of layout, but once you actually learn the system, it's a doddle.
IMHO anyone giving a outright opinion on whether W10 is good or bad based on nothing but yesterdays announcement is foolish. Nothing wrong with saying i like this, or don't like that. But to be making a final judgment on the whole thing so soon just seems to be jumping the gun.
For a laugh i looked up the number 10 in different languages, thought it would be fun to see what other countries will be calling it. Yami = Windows Poo Dusun = Windows hopod Fijian = Windows tini Dalmatian = Windows dic Wolof = Windows fukk Inari Sami = Windows love Mansi = Windows лов Well that wasted some time and amused me (small things occupy small minds and all that)
Well I'm now using Windows 10. I am currently finding it quite annoying that the start button area does not trigger the reappearance of the taskbar if it's hidden.

I did Was pretty much first thing I did after hiding the taskbar and realising it wasn't working right.
Beware of the Broadcom Bluetooth Tray Application. It completely disables input in many applications and freezes them (IE, Chrome, hell even the Windows Feedback app).
So far so good, done an upgrade (My personal data, docs, music, photos etc are on a seperate hdd) everything installed, all programs settings and device drivers, smooth as you like, FM2014 editor worked fine, as did Steam, Chrome, Word, Excel, Outlook, kept my folder structure intact aswell. Feels like I've literally just updated Windows 8.1 with a few new features and a Start Menu but at the same it feels like Ive installed a more upto date and better version of Windows 7. Going to a few more hours tonight on the most common programs for me to use, so that will be FM 2014, WMP and VLC.
So I take it that if we want to get our free upgrade to this OS, we need to reinstall Windows 8/8.1 and then "upgrade" back to this one?
