My external hard drive power supply recently failed. Opening it up I was not thrilled to find that a number of surface mount resistors had burnt up and left either smoke residue (OK) or burn marks (not OK!) on a thin plastic separator. Conventional hardware wisdom says not to skimp on power supplies but I have found it difficult to find a replacement that I could trust, my search generally leads to no name / Chinese brand adaptors on Ebay or Amazon. The best I seem to have found is this, which I could at least be certain of being fused. Has anyone got any experience of where the buy trustworthy adaptors? I'd be quite happy to pay more than the £5/10 that adaptors are going for on Amazon to be sure it wouldn't burn the house down!
