everytime in bord i find myself doing strange and obscure things such as - Constantly checking the fridge even though theres nothing new in it - Opening my side case and looking at the insides - Piling up pennies - Listening to my parents conversations - Sitting on the toilet Do you do weird things when boredom takes toll, and if so what/?
yes i understand completly; i rearange my bedroom a lot i clean i walk around the house over and over looking in all the rooms to see if anything changes. i definatly do the fridge thing lol and many more i cant think of because they are just so natural to do when im bord i cant remember but im sure i do more
One thing I love to do when I'm bored is take things apart, inspect them, repair anything that needs it then put it all back together again. This is especially true of my high performance flashlights and knives; Flashlights - Dismantle (they're complex, could take an hour to dismantle one and the same to put it back together), clean each component, grease threads & orings (replace if necessary), re-assemble, beam test (for artefacts caused by reflector or lens dirt), leak test. Knives - Disassemble, clean, oil, re-assemble, sharpen.
I was bored the otherday so i emailed Autoglass asking "who is this steve from autoglass on your adverts and what have you done with Gavin from autoglass?"
I find these activities both useful and theraputic. You'd be surprised by how important maintenance of a high performance flashlight is. Same as any other sort of regularly used mechanical/electrical device. Another thing I often do which is not necessarily as a result of boredom but is anoter theraputic task for me is car detailling. I do both my own and Dads cars on a regular basis
On really slow days, I can easily end up with first or even second degree friction burns. I should probably talk to someone about it.
I spend time with my cats. We take walks, hunt, scratch, wrestle, etc. and also take notes on their behaviour. Cats are pretty bright animals and certainly have distinct personalities to them if you actually get to know them. I really love watching when they learn things. Originally it was just Oprah, all she did was sleep. Then came along Chief, he's quite the hunter but never really did anything unique. Then Oprah died and J.R. was welcomed to the home. Here something special happened. J.R. learned that the cabinet in the kitchen which the trash is behind has a little lip on it, and his paw could just barely catch this lip letting him push the door open a bit and stick his head in. Where it gets more amazing: Chief watched him do this and learned to do it himself! Oprah never did it, and Chief never thought to in the couple years he was alone but watching another cat do it he learned by example. Sadly, J.R. died and we picked up June (we like to get cats from shelters, but can't afford over two) who then, guess what, learned how to do the same thing from Chief! Student became teacher. Things like that just amaze me. Lately I've been recording their hunting habits and successes... it's been fun.
Re: cats. I chase my cat around the house. I don't think she likes it. Also, she has only figured out how to open a door that is already open, but the gap is too small for her to fit through, and even then she is not very good at it (ie pulling with claws, pushing with nose is easy). But yes, I'm a cat person, not a dog person, even though dogs learn better. Also, refreshing Facebook every 30 seconds, to find nothing new.
