I am currently putting my SGO8 build together and the low profile memory I got doesn't appear to be low profile enough and is pushing heavily on my memory [IMG] :duh:

That memory channel may be buggered due to bent pins but I'm more concerned with all that stuff conducting current between processor and memory.

    Is that a real concern?

Should I just cut my loses, remove the heatsink now and remove that stick before I go any further or should I be crazy and just keep going? I know the Internet is the best place to ask such questions :D

I will ponder this over lunch.

Have you tried taking the heat spreaders off? I think that will fit fine with no heatspreader - this will probably invalidate your warranty though, but should stop it coming into contact with your hsf.

Removing the heat spreader is a good idea!

Have you tried flipping the HSF so the heat pipes are on another side?

No. There shouldn't be any current leakage from CPU to cooler, or from memory to heat spreader.

That Samsung memory is good stuff.

Why the smeg did you force it together!

the biggest issue is the contact of that heatpipe with the memory module. The heatpipe will conduct heat into the spreader of the module creating a hot spot, to which can't be a good thing for the memory.

Problem solved. I removed the heatspreader which ripped off 2 of the memory chips making it useless. 4gig it is then. I'll look into better stuff down the road and chalk this one down to experience.

Seriously, I know it has been said but I cannot recommend the samsung low profile 22nm stuff enough, it is half the height of normal memory and almost looks like you have none installed.

Yeah I will look into it when its cheaper. No rush as 4 gig is enough for now. This is mainly an emulation device and the A10-5800K limits that full potential anyway. So for what it does run 4GB will do for a while.
