I have windows 7 professional 64 bit installed. I was using another windows 7 PC the other day and noticed that when you search for something in the start menu, it comes up straight away, as though there was a cache of the pograms installed. On my PC, no matter how many times I have typed in the same info (eg. "calc" to get the calculator) It seems to search for up to 4-5 seconds before showing the calculator program. On the other PC calculator appears in less than half a second. Is there a cache for the start menu search? Why is mine slower? The PCs are of similar spec, both use hard drives not SSDs. Just wondering if there is anything I can do in settings to speed it up.

I have always found that it is really quick and I have never heard of a cache for the programs. Do you have a pretty clean install? What are your boot times like?

    it to do with indexing

if you turn off indexing, search's take longer
