Alkaline Trio and Jack Johnson? I'd say they're pretty well known...

Five O' Clock Heroes are the only good unknown band I've seen recently

Fall Out Boy are HUGE. I just went out for a few hours taking photographs and saw thousands of scene kids in town. Turns out Fall Out Boy are playing at the Academy and it's completely sold out. Never seen so many floppy fringes in one place! Not sure why I didn't take a photo, since I had a DSLR hanging round me neck. DURRR.

Aren't Panic! At The Disco a FOB cover band? Urgh.

Rosetta - Like Isis and all that garb. Really heavy and epic.
Ocean - Proper good doom metal.
The Ocean - Bit like Cult of Luna but with string sections and stuff. Bloody awesome.
Callisto - Some more Isis-like stuff. New album this year will be intense.
Ufomammut - Kinda similar to Neurosis, yet completely different. Italiano!
Boris - Their new release, Pink, is a mix of shoegaze rock, doom metal and balls out ROCKNROLL.
Pelican - Their big year was last year, but an impending tour with Cave In and a slew of other EPs and stuff will be worth watching out for.
The Go! Team - Yeah, you've probably heard this group already... But come on. This is near perfect summer music.
Red Sparowes - An impending UK tour for these champs of apocalyptic post-rock means you should go out of your way to see them. An epic live show.
Mogwai - Everyone loves Mogwai... And they've got a new album out soon. Check it out.

Every band in this thread, I got there first.

Here's some names to conjure with:

    Genesis
    Ultravox
    Sparks
    Roxy Music

New up and coming bands that are sure to make a name for themselves. Or maybe just my recent record purchases - not an album under 20yrs old between them. **** these new kids on the block and their new fangled angsty goth emo pop metal.

    the click five
    stayover
    ostreicher
    zeropointsix
    theAUDITION

... are all new bands that I've recently got into that I think other people might like.

I'm getting bored of the amount of elitist scene bashing that seems to go on EVERYWHERE these days, even on computer forums, for gawd's sake. Listen to music that you like, let other people do the same and the world will be a happy place!

hahaha, I went to school with Zeropointsix, not sure what there like now, but they were pop pop pop punk before one of them left to join 'The Fight' another upcoming band, not my style though, urgh.

New band Ive heard recently - The Academy Is, not too new, had an EP out before, but seem to be making it big now.

Falloutboy have been around for bloody ages, saw them about 2 years ago when they supported mest (not proud to have gone to that gig, was dragged by girlfiriend of the time.)

yeah they're still super poppy, but i think they're a really fun band, we're trying to sort out a show with them soon. crazy that you went to school with them, I've been chatting to Nick online a bit.

The fight are going to turn a lot of people onto awesome music if they get famous, but to be honest a lot of the time they come off like assholes and their lyrics are a bit too hackneyed for me.

    AH

Edit: The Academy Is kicks ass. They're playing with Panic! on Thursday at my local venue, gonna be such a good show but I've got an exam the next day :wallbash:

Aye, saw them at Manc Acad. last week, very good band.

None of these bands being listed are particularly 'new and upcoming', more just "bands you're unlikely to have heard of because my music taste is niche and I'm an elitist" :p So here goes:

    Envy
The Number Twelve Looks Like You
    Portrait
    Nevea Tears
    Life In Your Way
    Idiot Pilot
    Scraps and Heart Attacks
    Byzantine

Pipe down, mine are. There's no point trying to be niche and elitist with K / Penski around, they will always be more underground. I'm fine with it. Really. :miffed:

p.s. whatever happened to that little sulky smily, that was my favourite.

Talking about Japaneses bands, you must try to listen to :
    - Polysicks ( XXI century Japan Devo )

Another not so known bands :

    _ The Turn-ons.
    _ Mando Diao.
    _ Plan B.

And The Muffs are still around, the same with Los Straitjackets.
