Thought I would share this with everyone as it looks like we have an awesome new drive from Samsung - The Samsung F3 1Tb! There are no reviews on the net so i'll post results I got here from ATTO v2.41 benchmark. 140Mb/sec Read! These should keep everyone happy until the price of SSD's come down.
Posted my results a while back: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=175060 Not that anyone seemed to care but it seems very good.
Don't know what you searched for then At least people might notice this thread, mine got left out in the cold. Although I think the average read you will find is closer to 120mb/s.
I was going to ask the difference between F1,2&3 but I have now answered my own questions. Thanks! -J
For those that want the answer: F1 = 3 platters 333Gb ea spin speed 7200rpm F2 = 2 platters 500Gb ea spin speed 5400rpm F3 = 2 platters 500Gb ea spin speed 7200rpm
Me too, It's running as boot/storage for my Ubuntu server, which boots ridiculously quickly, although file transfers are network limited.
Ironically, I was just having a look at getting a couple of F3 1TB, at ~£54 you can't really go wrong, they are impressive drives.
Any views on noise compared to the F1 guys, the F3 should be quiter as its only got 2 platters. Seems to be the new leader of the pack
