I've never really owned a PS2 (outside of pinching a friends for GTA3/VC) and I'm currently in the process of trying to build a collection of PS2 games to have at hand for when the urge takes me for something different. I'm not looking for super expensive hard to get hold of games but more like being able to get a used copy for a decent price and it's one of those games that you just get the urge to play. For example I have got all the GTA games for PS2 (including VC Stories & LC Stories), also a selection of WWE games and a copy of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 and think I need to see if copies of Timesplitters are reasonable but what else? Also I'm not interested in the likes of ICO/Shadows of the Colossus/Final Fantasy as I've tried to play Ico/SotC on PS3 and didn't enjoy them and FF's just aren't games to pick up for an hour or two then maybe not play for a month. Anyone got any suggestions what other PS2 titles that are a must have in a collection?
I played a lot of the "street" sports games, NBA street, NFL street, etc. They were pretty fun. Kingdom hearts, though you mentioned you weren't crazy about FF, so not sure how you'd like that. You've already got all the GTA's, which are also great. I also really enjoyed some of the need for speed games, though I can't recall which were the better ones. The ratchet and clank series was also fun. Grand tourismo was awesome, and I enjoyed the god of war games, though they're very hack and slash, and pretty short.
Crazy taxi, SSX tricky, Rachet and Clank, God of War, resident evil 4, Burnout (great with friends), Black, Twisted metal (great with friends), prince of persia, star wars battlefront I and II (great with friends), the simpsons hit and run, NFS most wanted, onimusha 3, Time splitters 2 (one of my all time favorites, you will need 4 controllers for this game its that much fun) For me the PS2 has the greatest selection of games for any console.
PS3* with backwards compatability *that has been sitting neglected for about 2years now... Now that I've been playing PC games for years, trying to sit down with a console for a few hours (still want to finish my FF games) is just hard
Thanks for reminding me about that! I actually have an original 60GB phat with backwards compatibility. Might have to hit up a used game store for some ps2 games!
Lots of good games already mentioned, I'll add: Dungeons & Dragons: Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance Alundra (PS1, Zelda-like game) Legacy of Kain (PS1) Legacy of Kain 2 (PS2) Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 Final R-Type SSX Tricky Midway Arcade Treasures (Mortal Kombat series and some others) Capcom Collection (Ghosts n Goblins/ Ghouls and Ghosts and various other classics) PS2 had some good light gun games, but I don't think any of them will work with an LCD or Plasma TV (so unless you've still got access to a CRT you can ignore this bit) Time Crisis 2 Ninja Assault
i loved the Jak And Daxter series ( the first 3 that is ) Ace combat is also a great choice as gunny mentioned and most of the lego games are also pretty good
Gran Turismo 3 is still (imo) the best of the series - many hours lost to that game. For multiplayer, I loved Smuggler's Run 2 and Red Faction 2.
Gran turismo 3 crash bandicoot wrath of cortex burnout 2/3/revenge persona 4 thats if ytou dont have a vita for the remake cant seem to think of much else...
You have to get Sly Cooper Trilogy, they are great games. Also : Maximo (2nd game is better of the 2) Silent Hill 2 Jak & Daxter Trilogy Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance Destroy All Humans
