2 pictures - so a question ; do you either of these offend you? and so if either would offend you - why?
Offended is the wrong word in my opinion. I don't approve of this but I have found it am getting increasingly opinionated as I edge closer to my 30s. I think it is a bad message to be sending out.
This actually. Approve or disapprove would be a better word than offend. I've never been able to think of a circumstance where such a thing would "offend".
This. My upbringing taught me that the objectification of women is wrong and this kind of is just that. It doesn't offend me in the slightest, but just because it doesn't offend me doesn't mean I approve of it.
Not easy to offend me really. However i will be wearing pants on June 22. Its not compulsory, so not a problem. The first pic i believe is world famous, i remeber it in the poster section when i was a boy and that was along time ago.
I've seen worse on a saturday night in the Bigg Market many moons ago, Now THAT was offensive. What's the point of no panty day (obviously not a brit thing)
I disapprove of the second one far more than the first personally. I find it is too suggestive and quite frankly not a good message to be sending out at all.
Oi Harlequin less of the old! No more than tutting, but I find it hard to explain why. I assume that "no panty day" (if such a thing exists) is not aimed at the older members of the public, nor is it aimed at the male members of society. This can therefore only lead me to the conclusion that it is aimed at the younger female demographic, which I consider to be wrong. It is objectifying women and it is in an incredibly suggestive way in my opinion. I consider that to be a bad message to be sending out to an already vulnerable youth. On an unrelated topic I find myself moaning a lot about "them kids" at the minute. It is less about the kids and more about what they are subjected to by the general media. Music videos etc. NO I AM NOT A DAILY MAIL READER either.
+1 I think this is slightly irrelevant in this context but I already wrote it, so: However, there's a balance between trying not to objectify women and trying not to suppress women. EDIT: The second image is the one I would possibly find questionable for the reasons that others in the thread have already mentioned.
May I just add a slight twist and say that such a thing wouldn't objectify younger women if the rest of them refused to do it in the first place. I know there will always be those few that ruin it for everyone else but such an event or decisions seems stupid no matter what.
`and today`s column is by the much vaunted ` angry from devon`.... tommorrow see`s the return of richard littlejohn... so you think the female demography should be placed on a high pedestal (inflate those ego`s even more)?
No, I am not suggesting that they be placed on a pedestal. Neither dragged into the gutter. Who is Richard Littlejohn? Does he write for the Mail? As other people have mentioned, this is not compulsory. However would you be happy if an immediate member of your family decided to take part in this imaginary day? I know I wouldn't be too chuffed personally.
yes it was merely an inflection that you replaced the usual daily mail columist.... so the second is more ` uncomfortable` than the first?
In my opinion yes. I find the second more uncomfortable than the first. The first appears to be a photo taken of 1 person in a given situation. the second looks to be more instructional, if that makes sense.
