I had a quick go last night and i must say the radar just distracted me more than anything!

The spectator mode radar changes are good though.

Im sure it will grow on me.

Its not spectator mode that has exchanged, its SourceTV recordings, which hopefully wont render all previous demos useless like a previous update that meant I couldnt play my CPL summer 2005 demos :'(
The radar I think is a good thing. In match play it will really improve knowledge of teammates exact positions, and hoepfully on public it will reduce camping and speed up gameplay.
Train also looks pretty sweet, with the change in the connector and HDR lighting.

Would be nice to set it to only work when an "enemy spotted" or "need backup" command is issued. However having a map is great, I can now actually see where my teammares are!!

Not a fan of this update. It’s just been added to help people with no spatial awareness if you ask me. The old radar meant u needed to think abit more about things now its just making it too easy, backup commands etc... used to make the dot flash that was enough to let you know where your team mate was. Such a shame they have done this :/

Yeah, this is more of a "noob" update - I like that you can look at an enemy and they pop up on the radar, but I'd rather it was like BF2 - "Enemy Spotted" temporarily pops the enemy on the radar, but it looks like the Source engine isn't capable of this without modification.

Glad they fixed the eye height thing as well, that was a major annoyance.

i liked it. allows you to choose play the game the way it was meant to be (stealthy, and strategic), or the way that everyone plays it (all out deathmatch crazy aimbot hacks stupidly fast retarded mode). and it doesnt seem to interupt anything, you can play either way.

I agree with the original poster, I played earlier and I kept looking away from the mains screen and towards the radar which was getting costly to actually seeing anyone infront of me, they need to make it smaller

Source is almost impossible to hack on a VAC2 server, as it deletes anything abnormal in your cfg folder.

I'm not a fan of the new radar system, it takes up a little too much space.

Also, there seems to be a huge rise in choke after the update. And the update seems to kill some servers mods.

yea but it always happens on big updates, and its not really valves fault.

The main issue is that some nav files are crashing the servers/clients on custom maps, if you delete the nav file its fine but you cant make a new one as nav_end_area and nav_analyze crash css.

Anyway I like the new radar will just take a while to get use to.

edit: whats wrong with the size of the radar, its not much bigger than the old one for me.
