basically im in the process of upgrading to a much higher specced system, nearly all has been decided on or purchased already the final piece is a monitor to compliment the system, Im ideally looking for a 24"-26/7". Whilst the new comp isnt a htpc as such it is controlled from a sofa, and yes i do use a gamepad to play games (dont hurt me) this is because i have a room in the flat that is quite small and is used as a cosy lounge for playing games watching tv and dvds etc...

enough of the rambling ill get to the point, i would like to be able to play hd dvds through the comp when the drives become more affordable, and still want to be able to play games @ high res. Is there a monitor out there that will accept 720p/1080i/1080p input/resolutions or am i looking for something that simply doesnt exist?

    thanx
    ti

yeah the drive plugs in and updates the drivers automatically or can be downloaded tho you'd need a version of your software dvd player that can play HdDVD's

Deffo the cheapest options and the most user friendly.

you can get the 2407wfp-hc for £440 delivered, on ebay from pcbuyit. Good deal, i got one from them. comes with a 4yr next business day warranty and a no dead/stuck pixels promise (mine came with none, so i dunno if they'll hold up to this) - their service was impeccable (good communication and extremely fast shipping - sent it to me 2 days early!) and their feedback is very good so i say trust em.

A thumbs up from me for the 2407 also. Even though my ones aren't the HC version, still fantastic monitors nonetheless.

Use mine for office stuff, PC gaming and 360 gaming.

    It's only £436.xx (£428.xx + £8.00 delivery) on their site ;)

Anyways... I got mine from them, and... like yourself... pre-sales questions were answered very quickly, and mine was delivered next day (first thing in the morning actually - after ordering it around 1.30pm!)

As good as the 2407WFP is though, you still shouldn't discount other screens.
I would also suggest you consider the 24" BenQ FP241W (with 1080p - through HDMI... which would be ideal for your movie watching!!).

    Mains specs include: Full 1080p (1900 x 1280) + D-Sub/DVI-D/S-Video and Component, 1000:1, 500cd/m2, 16ms (6ms G2G).

It was reviewed back in September last year by Bit's sister site - Trusted Reviews, and received 10/10 in every category :eeek:

Admittedly... the review is getting on for a year old now... but the comments are still valid, because the screen is as good today, as it was then, and stands against anything newer (IMO).
In fact, if you consider the price drop since then (it's available for £441.68 delivered... maybe even less!!)... it's even better [VFM anyway] now  :thumb:
