You guys have certainly helped me in my search for good electronic music...

and infact i've started mixing songs now, I have great interest in this genre, trance, electro/funky/french house and DnB.

Trance - what can I say? Stuff by above and beyond...

In the space of a year or less from when I started this thread was when my interest really grew and now I believe I have already accumulated a huge collection of artists...bit annoying though as it's hard to buy alot of the artists here. Online stores are a problem for me I don't have a credit card..

I'll second the Pendulum nomination from earlier, some very good stuff there. If you can hack it, Venetian Snares, in particular the album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született (you won't look at classical music in the same way again after Hajnal)

I didn't read all of the posts in detail, but I didn't spot anything about The Prophet by CJ Bolland. On vinyl it is very difficult to get hold of, but I know Napster and places have it.

    Downtempo/Lounge -

    Kruder & Dorfmeister, Sneaker Pimps,

stuff like that, am i the only one who thinks it's hard to find decent full artist albums in the electronic music genre

    '

    Amen to Boyz Noize!!!!

Yeah it hard to find full albums as most electronica gets released on Vinyl only and in small quantities. That why i buy Vinyl only. Check hardtofindrecords for some wicked stuff

Depends what kind of sub-genre really. I assume you want the modern day electronica sort of thing.

Haven't checked to see if these have been mentioned at all...

    You said: Thievery Corporation, Moby
I say: Check out the "Lounge" channel at www.di.fm for more Also:
Lemon Jelly (sample to the groove)
Honeyroot (groove to the chill. takes a while to grow on you)
Jon Hopkins (chill to the bone)
    Boards of Canada (minimalist/downtempo/chill)
    Bonobo (lounge/chill)
    Bad Loop (minimalist/downtempo/chill)
    Secede (uptempo chill)
Fires of Ork (downtempo almost trance)
Bluetech (sleepy/chill) specifically check out Prayers for Rain (J.Viewz mix)
Ulrich Schnauss (like a chillout mince pie; rich and fattening)

    You said: Dj Tiesto
I say: Awesome choice. Forever Today is my favourite song in the world, ever. This basically suggests you might like the entire 'trance' genre which has changed considerably in the last 10 years or so but here's a few you may like.
Clokx - Feelings (extended mix) (Trance, Goosebumper)
Frank Trax - Nebuchan (100% awesomely mixable with deep dark breakdown. If you ever try mixing, mix this track into "Safri Duo - Played Alive")
Moogwai - The Labyrinth Part 1 (formulaic as old spice)
Rollerball - Albinoni (Above & Beyond Opera Mix) (breakdown guaranteed to induce need-for-new-undiesness)
Mike Foyle vs. Signalrunners - Love Theme Dusk (phenominal tune, spine-tinglingly ambient/spacey breakdown for a trance song)

If you like psytrance or goa (very similar to psy but more 'organic')
    Astral Projection
Atmosfire feat. Paul Didj - Tribal Dance (live) (might like this a lot if you're into DnB/Jungle)
Green Nuns of the Revolution. Rock Bitch and Atomic Armadillo are IMO their best. You can get a couple tracks for free.

Also, and this might sound strange, you may find you like Jazz (think about it; it's dance music): in that case start with something jumpin': Start with a tune called "Cowboy Bebop - Tank!" and if all goes well move on to Louis Jordan (Aint nobody here but us chickens, Is you is or is you aint my baby?).

(What can I say, I'm a three genre person: I love Trance, Jazz and the "chillout/downtempo" stuff equally!)

this is a great list, Ulrich Schnauss is brilliant, been loving his records for quite a while.

Also have a look at anything on http://www.warprecords.com there are a lot of my faves on there.

Also try searching for IDM rather than EDM. IDM stands for Intelligent Dance Music. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_dance_music in this section we are talking about Autchre, Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), orbital, oh and Tiefschwarz

Take a look at the wiki page, IDM's great.

Tiefschwarz is great. Seen them live a couple of times and the RAL 9001 Album is just awesome.

Steve Bug is another of my favourites and he is coming to Helsinki next week, cant wait for that. His Pokerflat label is one of the best on the market.
