ok, time to name and shame the worst ever programmes you've ever used in your life. I'm gonna say steer away from games cuz they're largely personal choice (unless it really is that bad) I'm gonna start with one i think tops the pile for worst ever app. norton anti virus. yep. utter shite.
To bring games into this, I once played the original ET game for Atari, I think qualifies as terrible software.
Windows ME, non-premium Vista, RealPlayer, Sony Picture Package, Lexmark Multifunction Printer software, Avery Personal Label Maker, etc.
oh, another one: 2003ish logitech keyboard drivers. i dunno if they've gotten better since then, but they were utter crap when i bought my first wireless mouse. and maybe i have no taste, but i don't remember windows me being that bad when my dad had it on his old dell. just the general windows annoyances. i think all the hatred is just because it inevitably gets compared to windows 2000, which was the best windows ever.
AOL takes the cake. I don't care WHAT version you use... just... why? Only Windows itself has caused me to swear more. Kensington Mouse Drivers. Windows 95 and ME. Norton AV. Quicktime - you won't make your plugin an automated install into Firefox, then &#*@ you, I'll be damned if I install it manually. And yes, supertoad, before I even looked at your post I was thinking, Windows 2000 was the best Windows EVER.
Lexmark, Canon startup software, Pc-Cillin Anti virus, Dells Software Driver for the x1300 in my XPS, Azureus Vuze, Kensington Mouseworks, Eamonn w/ Cs1.6, And Windows Update. Oh and TinyXp (regular edition)
Actually I'll go along with sonicstage when I used to still use windows, for one reason. It wouldn't even work with my NetMD... Good Job there sony. There are some other shocking apps for windows but I've left that world soooo far behind that I don't even care. However for macos... UltraMixer. So so fricking awful it's unbelievable. And as a closing point. Don't knock DOS6.22 or windows 3.11 it's not really a case of it not doing what you want, it's a case of you not knowing what you're doing.
I agree with every application listed, but no one has yet mentioned the monstrosity that is Linux... /dons flame retardant suit yum, df, du, ifconfig, ipchains, grep, less, vi... It's roughly equivalent of brushing your teeth with an industrial grinder whilst base jumping off the north face of the eiger, yes it is very clever, but also completely excessive for what you're trying to achieve
Linux itself is difficult to use, yes, but as the frontends and distributions evolve they work spectacularly. Ubuntu is a prime example of this.
