If I put plexiglass over my LCD screen, will it harm it in any way? And please don't ask why would i do that! TIA
Probably need to be more specific about how you're going to execute this. For example: If it was just leaned up against the front of the screen or free standing in front of it, then I'd say it wouldn't do any harm. If you were to paint the screen with superglue and stick a piece straight on to it then it probably would. Why would you want to do that?
No, what I plan on doing is velcro the 4 corner of the plexiglass and monitor to hold it on. Do you think it will affect the quality of the picture when viewing the monitor?
Relax... Most people are asleep now.. Someone is bound to answer.. But yes... you can put plexi on top of your screen... you could even sandwich it between the plexi and the rest of the screen.. (filter and so on) Im doing the same here.. Tho i havent tried cutting a piece in the right size yet...
Did this for a customer who was scared someone would put their finger through his new screen. Just got it cut locally to the same size as the externals of the screen and used 4 spring loaded clamps to secure it. This give a nice snug fit and no dust gets through. BTW, why would you want to do that????
You may have problems with reflections and glare depending on the distance between the screen and the plexi, the closer you can get it the better. Moriquendi
i think he means the distance between the plexi and the actual screen itself. depending on the monitor, there would still be a slight gap between the screen and the plexi if you were to just place a piece across the front, plus the depth of the velcro.
maybe not so much on the glare, but there might be a slight ghost/reflection like there is in a plasma/crt screen if you look at it from an angle
Having used a tablet that has a sheet of plastic about 1mm thick approx 2-3mm away from the screen I can say that it is sometimes a problem, particularly if more than one person wants to see the screen. Your best bet to avoid this is to cut the plexi accuratly so that it fits right up against the screen and even so there will still be glare at some angles in certain light conditions. Moriquendi

It should be alright. I have a slightly older NEC display which came with a plastic screen guard. It was marketed as a portable LCD, and its base folded up, so the protective sheild was built into and flush with the bezel.
as others have said, the only problem you could run into is some reflections in the glass. If the screen have a satin surface, there shouldn't be much noticeable. especially if the screen is just viewed from the front. Just try it out. If it turns out bad, you could just remove it. Another option is to remove the front bezel, and just put the glass snug to the LCD itself.
There is some glare, but no more than on LCDs with glossy coatings. There shouldn't be abnormal glaring unless the plexi will be more than 1mm thick or so. Maybe lexan would be better since it's a bit stiffer than plexi at these thicknesses?
