Barack Obama's 86-year-old grandmother has died on the eve of the US presidential election. Rest in peace Madelyn Dunham. My thoughts are with her family, especially Barack, hours before the election... MGT
Jeez, this couldn't have come at a worse time, although, ironically, it kinda has done, i'm not sure if it's a good way though, but people will possibly vote for him in sympathy. Still, R.I.P Madelyn. Sam
+1 As sad as this is, it's not unexpected. Obama was over there to visit her a couple weeks ago and hopefully he said goodbye then. As sad as the timing is, It's better than say a week ago. Obama needs to get thhrough the next 30 hours, then he will have some time to deal with this. And we should have results by 2100 local, which is 0500 on Wedesday GMT (I think)
Tomorrow night, assuming no recounts. But I expect this will be a pretty close race, despite what some polls have been saying. Politics aside, very sad news. I'm sure she was very proud of him. What a terrible time - that'll put a serious damper on the victory party, assuming he wins (and I expect he will).
Sad that she couldn't live to see Obama get elected, but maybe she knew he was going to win and that will do. The election is over if McCain loses Florida, Ohio, or Pennsylvania. Vote counts will be posted as soon as polls close on the west coast. It will take a few hours before it's really clear who won, but it shouldn't take as long as other elections because Obama will win by a landslide. What a fine testament for the care and devotion Obama's grandma raised him with.
Sad news, that she won't see him become the US president... Even sadder, some redneck will probably come up saying that it's all a conspiracy to gain sympathy from voters.
I was just wondering how long it will be before some republican nutjob tries to claim that it was arranged to get the sympathy votes... Obama won't get Florida. Jeb Bush will see to that...
I just heard that Obama's grandmother was able to vote for her grandson. Her absentee ballot was received Oct 27th (or 28th).
QFT. As my father always says, "Never argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Spoiler I appreciate that Obama and co, and those who support him will be upset, but come on, am I the only one who thinks this has only come to light because it's a slow news day? I apologise if the spoiler'd section causes offence, if so please tell me and I shall remove it. Its just my opinion on the whole thing. Joe
