been looking for a reasonably cheap new watch recently when i came across this: http://www.watchshopuk.com/mens-casio-leisure-watch-a163wa-1qgf-p99927476.html snapped it up! last time i had one of these babies i was playing monkey island on my atari st! i cant believe they are still making these things, but then i guess its what you might call a design classic (been around longer than the ipod anyways!)
It is a classic, I used to have one of the plasticy versions, but the title got my hopes up a bit, I was expecting an integrated computer, or at least binary time
but i would sweat buckets under that rubber strap as far as binary watches go i looked at a couple but they're a bit too 'look at me im really quirky', you cant beat the understated 80's calculator looks of the casio imho
Asos have a decent selection of retro watches- I particularly like the colour of the Timex series... http://www.asos.com/Men/Watches/Men...ry.aspx?cid=5766&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=3&sh=0
I've got an original 1986 Timex Ironman hiding in a box somewhere in my folks place in Chicago. Must hunt for it next time I visit. Just ordered the Casio - pure uncut old school, love it
That design is probibly older than me, and I know loads of people who still wear the plasticy version (including me until recently)
That's what I'm talking about! For the minimalist: http://www.ornatus-mundi.ch/artikel_12/artikel_12_1.htm For the classicist: http://marina.fortunecity.com/westindia/59/ppc89.htm For the Steampunk afficionado: http://dvice.com/archives/2007/12/vulcania_watch.php?p=0&cat=undefined#more For the tech-head (with poor time management --that's me then): http://zedomax.com/blog/2007/02/16/jit-watch-just-in-time-watch/
nooka watches bring geek chic into a subtler more contemporary take which is also subtly formal, you guys should check them out.
