Just been reading a preview of APB and I must say I'm really looking forward to it. If you don't know, it's made by Realtime Worlds (guys who made Crackdown, with a lot of the crew from old GTA games). It's a urban sandbox MMO, where you can either choose to be a criminal or enforcer. There's a really detailed customization mechanic for characters and cars, apparently it's the best ever seen, from being able to drag and drop details such as veins on biceps. There's going to be 100 players at the same time on a server (I guess your characters aren't tied to a specific server), there's a PvE element for each one but it all overlaps with the whole Enforcers v Criminals PvP. So for instance, a criminal could try and steal a car and sell it for some cash, but they could get spotted and all the enforcer players would be notified of the crime and could go and take him down, either by killing him (which gives a 6 second or so respawn time) or by arresting him (which obviously requires subduing him, so would be quite a challenge, but results in a longer respawn of around 30 seconds). The Enforcers also have PvE things they can do, such as escort VIPs, and as well, the criminals could be notified so they can target them. Sounds like it could be an incredibly cool game if it works out well.
Yeah I'm looking forward to it too. p.s. Whenever I see the name, I always think back to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.P.B._(video_game) I used to like that game as a kid.
It's been in development for donkeys years now though. RTW got a big fat investment - something obnoxious like a few million quid - not long ago which will only serve to delay the game. They're very much supporting the Broussard ("when it's ready!") mentality.
Yes it looks good but you got one rather important detail wrong in the way the game works. If a criminal gang starts an attack it isn't all the enforcers that will be given the all points bulletin, the server runs an automatching system based on the number of people in your gang, how well tooled up you are and your celebrity rating so that you always get an appropriate challenge. So if you were online with only a couple of your gang mates and had high fame the game might send a similar number of equally famous enforcers after you, or it might send four times as many people who are all n00b's.
Ah, I got the impression every enforcer got told, but there was so much crime going on around the world that there would be red dots everywhere so you wouldn't get all of them on you. Although I kind of like the sound of that, the way it's going to be sounds a lot more balanced
Why pamper him? First off, he rudely demands the link like people owe him something, and secondly, he could find it himself by simply typing in APB preview in to google. It's hardly complicated. Teach a man to fish etc..
