I have the option of getting a new GTX 295 from a friend for £290, only a few weeks old, or either the new Sapphire 5870 when they become available in stock for about £310 inc delivery. One of these cards will be used in an i7 920 gaming rig, playing on a 22" 1920x1080 monitor. The 295 is more powerful, but the 5870 is future proof and is cooler and quiter?
With your requirements, 5870. It'll run anything you throw at it, at that resolution and it'll draw far less power. DX11 too, but not that that's a deal breaker, IMO.
Why do you think your friend is selling his gtx295? What do you think He/She is going to buy? I think you have answered your own question there. Simon
Hes selling the 295 and the rest of his system for some extra cash, unfortunately he has lost his job But a 295 for £290 is hard to ignore
Is the 295 the newer single PCB version or the old Dual sandwiched together? I still think it's over kill running at 1920x1080, a new 5870 would suit you better, when you can find stock. Brand new card, warranty in your name etc etc.
I havent a clue about the PCB or Dual with the 295. Yes i think i will go with the 5870, i was leaning towards that choice anyway, but i was blinded by power Hopefully we will start to see some increase in stock levels this month Thanks for the help Fazed Edit: Ive just checked its the Dual PCB version. Whats the difference between the two?
I'd go for the 5870 personally, at least you don't have to worry about SLI driver compatibility issues in games like you would with the 295. Offer your mate £200 for the 295 instead
