I'm after building the Affordable All Rounder PC. The only difference I intend to make is to use an old 1GB HD4870, which needs 2 power supply cables. Can anyone recommend a budget Power Supply that is good value for money and can power this graphics card? Many thanks
A 450-500W PSU will power that fine. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500W...Power-Supply-Single-12V-Rail-80plus-Efficient £47 although only has 1 x PCI-e 6 pin so you would also need a molex-6pin or this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152009 OSZ 500W unit with 2 xPCI-e 6 pin and 3 year warranty
+1 on this ^. The Corsair Builder Series are, in my opinion, unproven as far as I can tell, we have yet to see any reviews of them. The Corsair website states that they are "up to 80% efficient". They are not 80+ certified. If you can't source a Corsair CX400 (getting hard to get now), go for the OCZ linked by DragunoHUN above or one of the following: 500W Antec EarthWatts EA 500D Green, 80+ Bronze - £56.71 500W Silverstone Strider, ST50F-ES, 80 Plus - £43.39 380w Seasonic S12II-380 PSU, 12Cm fan, active PFC RoHS +80% - £45.80 430W Seasonic S12II-430 Bronze PSU, 82+% Eff' - £55.91 My personal preference at this price & requirement point would be the 430w Seasonic @ £55.91.
careful...don't want to go too cheap...seasonic actually has a gold rated modular psu around the 400 watt range now i believe, if you got the cache
