Looks like all that power hardware helps this thing overclock like a beast, though the massive cooler would always be swapped for the most extreme tweaking.

 

Looks like an awesome card... I like the design, but of course the price is prohibitively expensive.

Also, while it's nice that you tested SmartDoctor, that software really is a pile of junk. I've been using MSI Afterburner with an ASUS card for a while now, no issues here.

Of course. Test BEFORE breaking is a rule of thumb. We've just written it the other way around

 

After breaking it apart does that huge chunk of triple slot heatsink have enough screws to support it? or just once again a msi lightning style 4 screws to support them all?

 

Four. But the difference is that the one heatsink is bolted to the core and the other hanging off by three heatpipes doesnt weigh that much. The metal shroud is then bolted to this, but I agree with you there: I think that should at least get attached to the PCB too.

Hi a question. I have a i7 950.The first time i ran 3dmark 11 it said processor clock 3068 MHz.
Now that i have turn on the overclockers, overclock to 4 ghz, it comes back saying processor clock 2667 MHz??? im all new to this any ideas??? thanks for an info.

 

Could've either not saved. Or hit a low power mode.

 

What does CPU-Z tell you? It's possibly reading your power saving state

 

CPU-Z said core speed 4000.1 MHz

 

No scrap that CPU Z said 2400.0 MHz
when you turn the pc on it comes up with 4000.1 Mhz

 

when you first turn the pc on and run cpu z its 4000.1 mhz then after 15 or so seconds it drops to 2400 mhz.
i have just installed a H70 cooler in my pc do you think that might of affected it?

 

Your CPU is just going into a lower power state, it's completely normal. Download SuperPi or WPrime and run it then watch the CPU-Z jump up to 4GHz again.

 

Nice 1, i have just changed to high performance from balanced in the power options.
It is now just sitting at 4000 MHz. was that ok to change that option??

these frequency stepping are unnoticeable to real world performance. so let it drop down to power saving mode. save some electricity bill.

Your CPU will run at 4GHz when it's needed, and it'll throttle back to 2.6GHz when your PC is not doing anything. This keeps your PC cooler, saves power, and also preserves the life of your chip

My i7-860 sits at 1,176MHz most of the day when I'm just reading/typing into Firefox, but it'll scale to 3+GHz when I crunch photos.
