Build Advice 600-700 new gaming system advice

So I've been abroad for 2 years hunching over a netbook. Now I'm back and I really need a good computer that will last me.

Budget: 600-700
Main uses of intended build: gaming+work

Will you be overclocking: yes/no (delete as required)
YES, I want to try. After reading about multipliers and what not, I'll try to find a guide somewhere about it...It's supposed to be more simple now right?


This is what I have right now:

antec true power 650 psu (2009)
500gb samsung hd (2009)
dell 19 inch monitor (2005...kkk)
keyboard, mouse, sound ok.


This is on my shopping list... What do you think?

1) do you think this will all fit into the antec 100 ok?

2) I just plan on getting the cpu to 4.5... will I need extra fans?

3) I'm willing to spend a little money to future proof my PC a little. Should I spend a little more on a better case or is that fine?

4) is the gtx560 too much?
...I actually have a sapphire HD 3850 from 2009...kk...

5) is the RAM I've chosen good enough?

6) what do you guys think about my selections? I've based everything off 2 days of internet research...

 

thats a good system that will all fit into that case, the 560 will be major overkill for the 19" monitor but will be good for a long while yet in terms of longevity so id stick with it, fan wise stick with a front intake and rear exhaust and keep an eye on temps and then add more fans as needed, ram is absolutely fine, the case is fine but if you are willing to spend a bit then get yourself a cm690 or if you like sleek smart looking cases have a look at the fractal design define r3

edit: sell the amd card, wont get much but its a few quid extra to buy a few beers and a curry while your benching your new machine

 

That build looks fine. You will probably be just fine with everything as you have it. Now the next thing you need to do when you've got some extra quid on you is to get a 24" or so monitor.

Don't worry too much about your memory for sandy bridge. You overclock sandy bridge through the multiplier so memory speed no longer affects your speed cap as strongly as it did when you overclocked through the FSB. Case is usually fine as long as everything fits and you're happy with how it looks.

 

You can't get much better really.

If you want to go SLi in the future look at the Pro version.
Personally I would go for a more expensive case. After all 700 pounds of hardware needs a good home.

Have a look at the cases mentioned above/HAf X/ Xigmatek Utgard if you like that style

What HDD are you going for? I would recommend the Samsung F3 1tb. Never had a problem with the F1/F3 HDDs

What cheaper graphics card would you recommend?

 

First thing I would do is go for is the -m version of your board.

Second would be to drop the HSF down to a Coolermaster 212 Hyper Plus (Which would of been enough anyways)

make sure to have a look on scans today only section.

If you have to do futher cuts after that The GFX would have to be cut down to a 460GTX while will be a fairly large hit.
Or else get your self a 5870

 

This is currently on a one day special for £180 at scan so if you bought that today you could save yourself £20 OR use the £20 to get a slightly better case . Personally I would get a slightly better case but that's just my humble opinion

I missed the gpu in the todays section so that's another 10 pounds saved...

and did you mean get the msi version of the mother board?

 

Whats the difference between the m version of the board and the one I've selected? pros/cons?

 

The M version is Micro ATX meaning it's smaller than a standard ATX motherboard. With the reduction in size you lose some functionality.

eg
3 PCI slots on the none M and 0 PCI slots on the M version.
Bluetooth on the none M and no bluetooth on the M version.
4 sata 6Gb/s on the none M and 3 sata6Gb/s on the M version.
2 USB 3.0 Headers on the none M and 0 on the M version.

The coolermaster is even cheaper and cools just as well.
Although isn't as nice to look at.

 

Every other day a GTX 560 is on offer so just keep on looking. With free delivery (due to having over 20 posts) you should be able to cut costs without cutting quality of your build.
You can usually save £20 or so with an i5 2500K and Asus Pro board often sold together.

If you need to save money though, you have a great 500gb HDD already, why not wait before buying another HDD. Personally I have never come close to filling a 500gb HDD, but then I only game.

I'd swap out the Thermotake Frio cooler for something quieter. SandyBridge CPU doesn't run as hot as previous gens CPU anyway.
