I have a Samsung 940BW 19" monitor that I have had for around 4 or 5 years now that's been working great until this weekend. I use it as a secondary monitor. Sunday morning I got up and went to turn on my screens and the main screen turned on fine but this one did not. The blue light in the power button just blinks on and off slowly. After a few minutes it suddenly turned on and it was fine the rest of the day. Now this morning I go to turn on my screens and it does the same thing. Only now it has been 8 hours and still isn't working. It still just slowly blinks the blue power light on and off. Any suggestions of what I could try to fix it? thanks
If you can work out what part has gone and whether it's worth replacing it, it could just be a single component. I presume it is out of warranty?
Likely one of the caps on the power board went. Its a pretty common failure in the bw series. Pop it open and take a look, should be pretty clear if thats the case. Simple and cheap repair of desoldering and soldering a new one back in.
I took it apart and took pics of the caps. To me it looks like there are 2 that have a slight bulge in them, but im not sure how much of a bulge would cause the problem. Here are the pics. They are very high res to keep the detail. Sorry if you got a slow connection. lol I circled the ones that seem bulged to me.
It is difficult to tell from the pictures, but they don't look bad to me. did you try swapping the connectors of the monitors to your PC to make sure it was definitely a monitor fault and not a prob with the video card? The slow flashing light in the monitor you describe sounds like what you get on some monitors when there is no signal going to it.
That green one doesn't look good. It may still be alive, but it have seen better days. The black one looks more or less OK in the pictures, though.
I have a very bad connection today... those pics really shows too slow. Anyway, I think the green cap looks pretty bad already and needs some replacement...
Replace any caps that bulge. Honestly they're not that expensive anyhow. As for messed up caps, unless you have a capacitor meter i dunno.
Definitely the green one is bad. the black one could cause a problem later as it looks like it might be starting to develop a bulge. Might as well replace it too. Caps are cheap, so might as well do both while you've got the iron out.
