Right now I run a single 8800 GTX for BF3 on a mix of high/medium @ 1920x1080 with no issues. would it be worth going for a 2nd 8800GTX?
Probably not worth the power usage to be honest. A single GTX 460 would trump two 8800 GTX SLI all day long.
No, but it's such a small step up, why bother with SLI 8800GTX? Here's a little gem of a card for a decent bump... http://www.dabs.com/products/gigaby...le&utm_medium=product+search&utm_content=Q200 Have lots of experience using these as you can read here... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=220423
Your probably better of selling your 8800 and buying a new card mainly due to how overpriced they are second hand. You'd think they should be around the £10+ postage mark by now.
Must admit from all the graphics cards we used over the last 7 years, the 8800GTX was the one that had the highest number or warranty returns, over 50% of the systems we built with a 3-year warranty had the GTX fail in the 2nd or 3rd year, so I wouldn't risk buying a 2nd hand 88GTX card, that’s if you can find a pair that still work. Wait till it dies and then buy a GTX 460 / 560.
FYI The latest patch for BF3 has made a performance hit on a number of machines. I'd wait until they bring out a fix for this (hopefully in the next patch)
