Hey guys, just a quick question around a potential build I'm thinking of - I'm looking to build up an i5 with 16 gig ram (just because its so damn cheap) and a decent motherboard - the problem is I'm having a little bit of trouble deciding on the motherboard - price is a key part of the build but I don't want to skimp on overclocking etc. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Do you actually need 16GB RAM? Also what are you using the rig for? Are you limited to a certain form factor? You said price is key so what is your budget?
As above might be an idea to state specifically what you plan on doing. Im gonna upgrade my MOBO/CPU soon. I have decided on this mobo, i read a review on the i5 3750K with that MOBO and it scored well in OC.
Ye the Z77-D3H is very highly regarded for OCing. Ch33sefiend, if you're gaming you don't need more than 8GB RAM tbh, if you're doing video editing, or other demanding stuff then you might be able to justify it
Sorry about quick post (was on lunch) - the budget in mind will be probably no more than £100 ish, not really limited to any particular form factor as I've got a pretty big case but will probably want to steer clear of the mini stuff as I have lots of room for air etc etc. Budget is probably the main thing for me - as I will be spending around £150 for the CPU I'll want to limit the budget for the motherboard as much as possible (within reason, of course!). I'd imagine around £100ish. The main reason for the 16gig ram is that I encode a lot of movies. The machine will mainly be for gaming / video encoding. Hope that helps!!
Credit to adzc1987 for reccommendation! In that case, defo take advantage of cheap RAM! i hate seeing the price of 8GB kits after paying £70+ for mine a while ago
The GA-Z77-D3H is a good choice; no issues whatsoever with overclocking to 4.5GHz. I also have 16GB of RAM.
