Hi there, I am having a bit of an annoying problem to do with my CPU and I need some advice on how to improve the temperatures. The CPU is clocked to 4Ghz and sits on 50 degrees while idle and when Its on full load (playing BF4 etc) I notice that the temperatures exceed past 75 degrees. Is this normal for haswell processors? I applied a pea sized MX5 paste to the CPU. The cooler is a H60. Also, could anyone tell me why I can't exceed past an overclocked CPU of 4 Ghz? It keeps blue screening - I am unsure what the problem could be. The CPU voltage is sits between 1.1 to 1.2.
What is the blue screen error code? I don't know much about haswell but I know they do run hot, you shouldn't need to overclock too much to get a decent gain though afaik.
I can't remember the code, I will have to jot it down when I am home. I think I am just used to the SB chips being cooler.
That does seem a little hot. Although it depends on ambient, your fans/what speed you're running them at etc. I presume you've tried upping the voltage for the overclock?
I thought that as well. The CPU fan is strangely running at 4.5k RPM which was another thing I forgot to add. Could this possibly have some relation or is it some sort of pump speed? The cooler 3 pin is in the CPU header, both fans are in Chassis 1 & 2. I haven't touched any Voltage settings. Forgot to add that the Q-FAN controller is switched off but I didn't notice any difference with the temps.
Worse meaning temps, I take it? Yeah I am starting to believe that too.. but I am going to try a few other coolers before I scratch my eyes out.
The H60 is useless as an enthusiast/overclocker's cooler mate. My one couldn't even hold a FX 8 @ 4.2ghz without throttling. And that wasn't me torture testing it in Prime, that was merely Crysis 3. I replaced mine with a H100 - problem be gone. They're not very good really. I would say they're not even as good as a £25 air cooler with a 120mm fan on it. I would only use one in something like a media rig, where the CPU was stock and my main aim were to be very quiet. You could, of course, have a duff CPU. I've seen a good few cases now of 4670ks not wanting to go above 4.1ghz or so. Some are just really bad clockers.
H80 refurb. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cors...-2xfans-intel-lga-115x-1366-2011-amd-am2(plus) If you don't want a 240 rad then the H80 is about as high as you can go with a ready made cooler. The H100 is around the same price refurb but obviously has a 240 rad. Cooling wise they're very close any way.
ive got the AR02 and i get idle temps of around 35-40C and load around 80-85C 4.2Ghz but i do have speedstep on so i get some idle mhz at 0.8Ghz
As woeful as the H50 may be on a chip with high heat density, those temps are still way too high. My money's on poor/partial contact between the heatsink and heatspreader.
Ok, I will give this another try as I have thought it could have been contact. I took off the HS and found that the TIM had spreaded nicely though. Cheers for your suggestions Andy. - I have dropped to 3.8 (turbo speed) on the CPU and the temps are still the same.
Have you tried increasing/decreasing the speed of the fans? Do you just have the one fan on the radiator? What are you using to measure the temperatures?
Both fans are sitting on 1k RPM after increasing them from 600, 1 fan on the Radiator. I am using CPU Tem and HWMonitor.
Those little close loop coolers really do need a decent amount of air through them, 1k fans are useless on them, especially the wafer thin single 120mm ones like the H60.
Just tried another h60 cooler from my other pc along with a different fan (1500 RPM) and there has been a huge improvement. My idle temps are 30 degrees and when benchmarking/bf4 full load, its barely 50 degrees. Its definitely the new h60 I purchased. Something is really wrong with it.
Just sent a ticket in to Kustom PC's where I bought the cooler from. Has anyone dealt with this company before?
