I'm looking very carefully at the Scan 3XS Graphite LG135, but there are no reviews are there for me to get information from, so I am hoping that someone here has one or has the similar model from PC Specialist (13.3" Optimus V). I want something small enough to travel with comfortably, size-wise rather than weight, powerful enough to use at home and at work and with enough battery life to last me on my regular 3-hour train journeys between London and Newcastle. I'm referring to web browsing and coding when travelling rather than gaming. I've been looking at smaller and cheaper alternatives but I'm away 3 weekend out of 4, roughly, so I want something that will do just about everything. So, anyone tried one of the above laptops or got any other recommendations for me?
I have a PCSpecialist Vortex IV and I hate it - the chassis and screen is crap. However I can't say this holds true for the Optimus as it's a completely different unit - I will say PCSpecialists customer support is reasonable. I've not experienced Scan's from the point of view of having a complete system from them but I expect theirs is probably better. What sort of budget have you got? The Optimus V starts at £600 so I'm guessing you're looking to spend about £750 after you've specced it up a bit? I'd say, given your usage, you're probably better off spending a bit more and getting a good ultrabook (ideally the MacBook air - it is the best in class, although if you're a .Net dev than that might prove impossible?).
yeah MBP or Lenovo thinkpad T-series for a real portable workstation. I tend tword THinkpad myself less eye catching steal me please written all over it and actually does better in all fall tests and is backed with real business support. True enough - and the Samsung Series 9 is a good alternative and a bit cheaper. @OP - if you are going to go with the Scan or PCSpecialist systems I'd say you MUST get the screen upgrade to the IPS panel. You're spending a lot of time working on it, you will appreciate the improvement.
As much as I love the look of the Macbook Air and Pro, I just can't get on with them. I use an Air at work every now and then and I firstly can't stand using the keyboard, secondly I have OSX also. I know I can install others but still. I was considering a Mac a while ago but since I have used one a bit more consistently I know I just can't do it. As for Lenovo, it has crossed my mind and I will take a good look, especially as I will be using linux. I will wait till after Christmas now as I should be able to get one through work in the new year. Gives me plenty more time to get more advice and do more research.
It's definitely worth seeing if you can get some hands-on experience with whatever one you decide upon.
Bit of a thread revival but I got the LG135 a couple of months ago and I am chuffed to bits with it. The screen is excellent, the power is just silly for a laptop (as fast as my 3570K as stock speeds), the battery life is half-decent and the overall build quality is excellent. The CPU gets pretty damn hot when playing games (hit 94C whilst playing Titanfall earlier) but other than that I couldn't be happier. I don't know how different the LG136 is now with the 860M inside but I fully recommend this to anyone looking for a decent gaming laptop. It's always easily upgradable. I stuck in a 240GB SSD and will eventually get 16GB RAM, too. Top marks to Clevo and Scan for this laptop.
Hmmmmmmmmm, yeah... no. The LG135/136 sounds pretty good. I assume it is running a 4700MQ? It doesn't surprise me that it is running that hot. The 860m is probably a better fit given the thermal limits but the 765m is still very good for its class. This does remind me actually that I need to get the custom bios setup on my 780M. Increase the OC limits.... 1Ghz+ 1536SP GK104 in a laptop.
It's running the 4710MQ. Managed to time my purchase fairly well as I got this slight upgrade of CPU and a free Asus Vulcan ANC headset. You must get some pretty good frame rates from your laptop!
Ah nice. Yeah it isn't too bad Looking forward to what the high end Maxwell can bring to the table. Althought NOT looking forward to the MXM pricing for the GPU..... 780M replacement would be around £600....
