    i want to get a M5A99X EVO R2.0 Asus motherboard for an AMD Fx-8370. the ram i already have is team group ddr3 2 x 4gb modules @ 2400mhz 1.65v.

there is a couple of other makes of ram on the motherboards qvl that are 2400mhz, 1.65v and CL11 but not the team group.

will the ram be ok in it?

Probably. I don't think I've ever looked at the QVL lists on any boards I've bought and haven't had any problems so far :)

You might not hit 2400MHz without overclocking though.

yeah i realise that i won't be hitting 2400. but 1866 at least? and will it be ok still running 1.65v @ 1866? it won't affect the cpu or anything with ram voltages at 1.65v will it?

    I ran my team group ram at 1866 then 2133 @ CL10

just manually set the speed and timings!

The memory controller in the FX-8370 is rated for 1866MHz so that should be fine. Voltage wise, I don't think AMDs mind as much as the Intels do. You can always try undervolting it and testing the stability.

when you set it to 1866 - what timings and voltage did you use? and at cl10 @ 2133 - what voltage was that -1.65v?

so it's only intel that's pretty strict on 1.5v ram? as in if the voltage was set to 1.65v nothing else would become unstable as a result?

    The ram is running at 1600mhz , 1.5v with timings (from memory...!) 11 13 13 35

these are the timings it's chosen. There are so many timings to change in the bios i have no idea where to start.

if i change the speed to 1866, it won't post. even with the voltage at 1.65v. this is because it's using the timings above.

what do i change the timings to to run faster speeds? any good links about timings?
i should be able to get 2133 as the motherboard supports it. and there is 1.65v ram on the QVL
