    Hi all

Just a quick question as I can't really find a concrete answer for this.

If I have a machine that upgrades to Windows 10 (that has Win 7/8.1) and then in two years time I reformat, will I be able to reinstall Windows 10 or will it go back to the Windows 7/8.1 and be 'stuck' with that?

What I am asking is, once upgraded will the key transform from a Win 7/8.1 Retail to a Win 10 Retail?

    Thanks

Yes. When you upgrade, the Windows 10 key will be linked to your Microsoft account (if you have one), or to your hardware details. When you next attempt to activate a new install of Windows 10 on the same hardware (or with the same account) it will activate automatically. If you make a significant hardware change (and do not have a Microsoft account) you will likely have to activate over the phone, as with previous versions of Windows.
