    That rather some up our government. The public at large is overwhelmingly against this proposal, but seventy percent of our rich buddies are in favour, so we're going to do it.

    Yeah sounds about right... I don't get it anyway, I don't think the punishment for piracy should equal physical theft. IMO it's not the same crime, yes Piracy is a form of theft, but the owner still has the original. But with physical theft they don't. I would say maybe piracy should be 50% of normal theft, so 5 years instead. That's still a 3 year increase.

    How can it be theft if the owner suffers no loss of property?

    In fact, copyright infringement (the legal term) has never been associated legally with theft, for very good reasons. This despite how much Big Media wishes they could have anyone who makes an unauthorised copy could be thrown into jail forever, or just get dragged behind the nearest shed and shot :duh:

    Wasn't there some study some time ago that pirate users are ten times more likely to buy or something similar to that effect.
