That's a tricky one. We've got third-hand claims SBIRS saw launch and impact flares, but as with MH17 that's not going to go public even if true (and even if correct, it's not evidence that's interpretable by the public anyway). Ukraine has the same investigators on the ground as with MH17, and they are unlikely to just shut up if told to do so. Even if they do get thrown out and all collected evidence confiscated (a tacit admission of guilt anyway), there's enough public photographs of the site on the internet that reconstruction from photogrammetry is also an option.
If someone f-ed up and set Tor to full autonomy near an airport (or just as bad, staffed the command unit with people who just hit the button when the alarm goes off) there's no real way that can be concealed in the long term.

So the talk is of this rather than the 'legality' of the Trump strike.

I can believe Iran shot it in error but the I can more easily believe it's all smoke and mirrors. It definitely wouldn't be the first time.

Edit: Interestingly none of the 'evidence' has been passed onto Ukraine yet.

The long and short of it is that this falls directly on the US's doorstep. If we hadn't assassinated Iran's general the entire conflict wouldn't have happened. It's a public relations farce and you'll never see Trump apologize. I currently think if we have any goodwill left in the world we'll lose it soon.

The news just arrived, the Iranians admitted shooting down the plane by mistake.

Well, i'm surprised. Surprised at the speed of owning a situation.

It's been from being 'clearly' not Iranian missiles to Iranian missiles being clearly responsible.

Can't remember a time a country has taken responsibility for something so quickly.

They seem pretty in tune with global public opinion, or at least that's my suspicion, as they're trying to make themselves out to be the good guys, in the past that would've been a difficult thing to pull off but with Trump in the WH it's become easier.

However, they do blame “US Adventurism” for the chain if events.

HUMINT is fast nowadays. It's looking rather likely the missile was fired from a Tor complex situated at a suspected ballistic missile development facility north-east of the airport, which was masked from the airport by a ridgeline. An aircraft taking off and rising up above the ridgeline heading towards the facility, and an American bomber flying nape-of-the-earth opening its munitions bays prior to drop/launch (and going from a very small radar return to large one), would have looked very similar from that perspective, and with an engagement window open for a few seconds. Questions remain why this particular flight was engaged and not others from the same airport, but with only seconds available to engage before potentially receiving an incoming strike even minor technical or procedural issues that prevented positive IFF identification or any miscommunication in takeoff timings (e.g. a delayed flight, or the wrong time entered in a logbook) would be fatal.
