News AMD: patches coming for Windows 11 performance issues

It's interesting how this was fixed in Windows 10 when Ryzen arrived and a similar issue occurred with the scheduler... and yet it is broken again here. Further, to my knowledge (I'm pretty sure it would have been the talk of various tech forums and YouTube talking heads) it wasn't reported before launch... and Microsoft and Intel have a history of, well, "close collaboration" (XP64 didn't come out until Intel had a 64-bit x86 chip...)

Nah, I'm just reading too much into it.

 

You're not. Intel openly started they had worked extremely closely with Microsoft on the scheduler specifically. Their upcoming big.LITTLE CPUs need that support of the Windows scheduler on top of their own in-hardware scheduler. I'm not surprised at all that AMD chips suffer when it comes to the scheduler.

 

With this week's release of the Lutris game manager for Linux now providing initial support for Epic Games, I'm seriously thinking of dumping Windows altogether.
