Still going to be an expensive upgrade with a new Mobo and DDR5 required - however the IPC improvements do look significant (in particular from 3XXXX series)
Don't be too hasty - haven't seen motherboard pricing yet [actual pricing not AMD's nebuluos 'from' prcgin]... ...plus DDR5 still isn't exactly cheap So Cpu pricing might be about where 5000 series was but total platform costs could be higher... [EDIT - Spraduke types faster]
Looks awesome. They have been executing well, just don't need it but will no doubt transition over at some point.
I'll be skipping this line. Same as the new GPUs from both camps (I'm not counting Intel as a viable GPU manufacturer yet) - I won't need anything for quite some time. Which is just as well - it'll give the new chipsets a chance to stabilise and give DDR5 a chance to come down from the stratosphere.
I'm going to up my CPU to a 5700x/5800x and pick up a GPU from this gen when I see a price I like. Likewise waiting for AM5 to stabilise (helped me with AM4 as I went straight to a Mortar Max rather than picking up a Mortar early on that couldn't handle bios updates).
I’ll be waiting for the APUs to launch. I’m really keen to see what they can do with some RDNA cores on board, even if they are alongside Zen3 CPU cores. I don’t think my 5900X will need replacing any time soon - it’s more powerful than I really need already.
Oooh - i did not know they all had them. Be good to see what they're capable of on their lonesome. Will be interesting to see what full fat APUs perform like too.
I recall someone saying the onboard is really only for diagnostics, so I wouldn’t expect a lot from the main line of chips. But the proper APUs with a decent number of RDNA cores could be very interesting.
With electricity prices as they are it’s not a great time to pull up the TDP off at least the X600x part! It’s also not brilliant for my little SFF box, either. I’ll be holding off on another generation or two, also thanks to the RAM and mobo costs highlighted already
It's disappointing to see AMD upping the power limits of their line-up. I wonder how the lower powered ones will do with the tiny iGPU said targeting encoding and decoding. Currently running a i7 7700t as my proxmox host with plex. Would be great to get more cores and higher IPC. Same as David, no desire to change for this one, or next few years. Might get a new GPU when rtx5000 is released, second hand 4000 or brand new depends on new one's power efficiency.

I know it's a rumor, but it's a persistant one that there will be some Ryzen 7000 (or 5000+) CPUs for Socket AM4 as well. Obviously they will be 'price point' CPUs rather than high end, but with the jumps in performance AMD are claiming they may still be worthwhile for some AM4 users. I hope it turns out to be true.
I heard that too, I'm just a little doubtful about the likelihood. Zen4 is geared for DDR5 and pcie5, hence the pin(pad) increase, and I don't know enough about the integration of the memory/pcie controllers to say how easy it is to build for AM4 & DDR4. It might be rumours of the APUs, which have been based on previous gen silicon, and would package better for AM4. Weren't there also rumours that the additional releases on AM4 would be 3D cache variants of Zen3?
