I'm going to put together a portable computer fairly soon, and I want it to be able to accept both 12V DC and 120V AC power for plugged-in and cordless operation. 12VDC for computer is fairly simple, the powersupply I'll be using supports it. Also supports 120VAC. However, how do I get the monitor (LCD) to accept 12VDC? 120VAC is native, but how would I go about converting DC into AC? Or would there be an available reasonably low-energy LCD that accepts 12VDC? Or what? Thanks Neuffy
The easiest way is simply to purchase an inverter to bring the 12v DC up to 120v AC. They're available in most auto and hardware stores, and probably your local consumer electronics store.
Are you sure that the monitor doesn't already run on 12V DC. It will definitely be low voltage if its an LCD. If you can measure the output of it's power supply that will tell you what voltage it runs on.
