Hiya all. Just done a clean install of windows and just about to install avg free as i usually do but wondering if there are any better free protection out there? Im a bit out of touch with it all now. lol
I build quite a few systems in all budgets and personally unless instructed otherwise I just use windows defender, it just works, the customers don't need to touch it. I advise them to not visit dodgy websites and click dodgy links and so far I've had no issues.
If no one is clicking dodgy links and stuff, anti virus would be almost redundant but I see your point, for those who know what they're doing, there's no need for anything else. If you absolutely have to have something else, I'd go for Bitdefender Free. AVG is complete rubbish recently.
I've always been very happy with Microsoft Security Essentials to be fair. It sits there, does what it needs to do and doesn't bother me. If you buy something like Norton or whatever then go and hang your head in shame.
avg free is popup heaven now. I used it for years and its now removed. Been trying out Panda Free. Seems to work. You can also turn off any advertising in the settings and I compliment that with Malwarebytes
Totally agree with previous posters. The best free pc protection is common sense However if you must have some outside protection, there's a ton of resources on this. Avast and Avira are quite good pieces of software for the money. Check them out first.
Have also been using this for about a year I think. Have it on my parents computers so I can keep an eye.
I use it on a couple friends pcs means I don't even have to walk them through opening teamviewer ..."what's the start button" ...
Just read this morning that Kaspersky are launching a free AV product - launching in the US in the next 24 hours, launching in the UK in October. No idea if it's any good but the AV tests over on PC Pro usually put Kaspersky at the top of the pile in AV roundup testing for detection. Comes with no ads either, but Kaspersky will use data for machine learning - make of that what you want. tbh AVG has too many ads these days and I'm happy using Windows Defender (even if the detection rate isn't fantastic) and Malewarebytes free to cover everything.
What I believe is ad what i am doing is as follows for my system. 1. I never use pendrives to my system from other systems. 2. I am satisfied with Windows even windows also provide security to my system like windows defender 3. I can update my system on regular basis ... I think that Antiviruses slow down system and make work difficult.
