    Hi all,

Just noticed prices are starting to appear for the HD7870 and HD7850.

    Overclockers:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&subid=411

    Ebuyer:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=HD7870 (HD7870)
    http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=HD7850 (HD7850)

    Nothing yet on Scan

All I can say is ouch.

Performance is good but with the recent price drop on GTX5xx cards they don't seem particularly great value.

Custom cooled and overclocked GTX560TI 448 cards (so basically GTX570 performance) can be had for under £200 which makes the HD7850 seem somewhat luke warm.

Despite the estimated price for the 7870 being correct in Bit-tech's review... ?

I think you'd have to be living in a world of unicorns, rainbows and care bears to believe it's going to be cheap. But it will be here and old stuff will start getting cheaper. Which is bellissimo!!!!

Scan's prices are just about to go live, had the page up but the site crashed.

Yup they are up, upgrading from a gtx 275 point of view a £160 6950 is looking better all the time.

Probably, but that just means that the price wars start! I'm going to wait about 2 months after it's released before I decide.

560 ti normal edition is only £160 scan had it up for

Seen on overclockers weekly special for below £150

2 560 ti or 1 7870 know what I'd choose it it was my money

I can see that most prices from "good" retailers are closer to £320 for the 7870 here in DK....

I really need a third job to pay for all this :(

Nice find(s)! Why is there such a gap in pricing between the 7850 and 7870? I was expecting the 7870 to be abit cheaper than this!

I would probably plump for the 7850 anyways and just overclock it. Going to wait a few months to see how things level out

My 4870 is getting a little long in the tooth now, is the 7870 todays equlivant or have they messed with the numbering since then?

Just preordered a 7850 from scan. Went with the MSI frozr, as it was £15-20 cheaper than the equally good XFX custom cooler cards, ETA just says "item due today" so we'll see when it turns up.

My old faithful launch day 512Mb 4850 will be retired and allowed to graze the fields of sussex for the rest of its life.

The 4870 was released as the top end single GPU card of its generation. The 7970 is the equivilent in position on the AMD tree but price was the 7850 or 7870 territory when it launched i believe. It was certainly never as expensive as a 7970 is (even accounting for inflation).

the twin frozr's like i have are running $320 new...not quite what i paid for mine, but nice for retail...

and an msi twin frozr II 580 for $390 delivered...that's a hard deal to pass up if upgrading to that/7950...good times
