I'll probably be running dual PSUs in my next system (I have 2 300W ATX PSUs from my old computers). How much of a load is necessary on a PSU to keep it stable? I figure initially, the one that doesn't power the hardware will have at least 35W on it from various fans and lighting, and that'll probably be 45+ once some other things get installed later. Is that enough? That PSU used to run an old P3 Celery and not much else, so I can't imagine the load has to be too high.
Most ATX PSUs will power on with no load, and they should stay fairly stable with light loading, but if you start to draw a lot on the 12v line and not anything on the else, it could start to wander, just test your PSU and if it does, find something to run off the 5v line that produces something other than heat, (luxeons would work good for that)
Okay good, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Some Luxeons would fit in nicely with my case now that you mention it... Thanks!
