Case Mod - In Progress Project Impossible Modding - 07/02 Improving

Now that I have the wb connector in place, I want to see it on motherboard!
First, bring out the plastic frame , then two M4x40 screw, inox , obviously.



Not so bad, not so good... I can do it better, beginning with the polish work on the OCLabs clip, that is really strong! Important info : the center hole is threaded M5 (correct word? I hope so...)
I've planned to insulate the screw with this hard plastic rounders :

One rounder under the mb, one to the top, now how can I proceed?

But I don't like to see the bare screw... Let's take a toru to my junk drawers searching for something... Here is the reasult :



I like it, but I found even this two piece :



Even chroming the brass piece, I don't like the final look... The first solution is ok for me, and for you?

 

I've decided to add a little "cabe look" using this gummy rings, they are originally panel led holder. The last adding is ... mmm, google don't help me... what is the correct word for the top fixing ?



BTW, I love the final look! Now I've to work to the main screw that control the force applied to the wb...
The original screw look so odd, so I've decided to use this :



Hex head screw ,inox , M5x50 , a led holder, a pipe from an old SMA connector and a SAT cable connector, from my fabulous drawers :-] After playing with some configuration, the final result is this :



I like the final look, and you? Now that the wb is in place, I can cut the tubing in exact lenght, the Tygon is really expensive and I don't want to waste it...

The next work to do is some filling work with the Ma.Er. connector, the nipples for the pump and all the connectors for the vid card wb...



Now, to the chrome guy, 5 euros and a week to wait... I hate to wait...

Hey rigormortem, the mod is looking good.

The only thing I was a bit sad about was the condition of the hard-drive water blocks before you chromed them. You really should have sanded them before you sent them off. Now you can see the imperfections trough the chroming quite well.

Also you have an interesting way to approach the water cooling with "solid tubing". Are those parts also going to be chromed since they are now brass or copper colored?

I'd say that you'll have quite a challenge ahead of you because of the size of the case. So I think the name "Impossible modding" is well deserved

The brass tubing is just for testing pourpose, and the ma.er. need to be polished, but I haven't sanded because I love to see the mill paht cromed, I like to see the machine signs :-]
I was shattering my brain to find a suitable name, the final pool was "Impossibile Modding" or "Tetris Modding" but I choose IM because are the initial of my website :-]

Talking about the pump, here is an idea for the placement:



Nipples, T and compression fittings :



It fits, but I have really less space to work... But if I change somethings...



In this way is better, but, repeat, it's only a test!

 

Other idea :



I don't like this placing , but this allow me to have the reservoir and the pump without talking the most important fact : the radiator is really near! I hope to place finally everything here, but I need to modify the reservoir!

 

But the most important thing is the hardware placing, to be sure to have some free space , here a pics of the motherboard tray :



Talking about the screw to fix the mb in place, I've chose to use this screws :



They are bigger than usual, but I love this!



This is the critical point, but it fits well! And now I can begin the hardware mounting!

 

The fans that I've oredered a lots of time ago are arrived! I've choosen the Enermax UC-8AEBS , really interesting, magnetic motion, easy detaching of the fan blade and trimmer to regolate the speed...

After a few works, here is the result :



As you can see, I've used other led grommets as anti vibration between the fans and the rad :-]
More upload have to come, I'm always too late in translation works...

It looks good.. I have always been a fan of the micro and the small form factor machines. I have never even considered trying water cooling on those machines. Impressive planning on that system. good luck as you push on.

 

Today the last missing piece is arrived from the chrome guy...
Now I can continue , in next few day I'll sit here and translate my worklog... So, new update are coming!

 

Now it's the time for the usb port :-]



Take out the cover and working to the fixing method, I've used this spacer, they are threaded M3 , so for the Cabe side they are ok:



But fot the screw side are too small, so I've decided to tapping one side to M4 :



Only one side, remember...

 

Here are the ready spacer :



Searching for something to cover the cable mess I've found this :



A bit expensive, 12.40 euros, but it fits well...



Marked the holes, then drilled with a 4.2mm bit.

 

Here is the first fitting :



Now I need to find something to cover the sides...



The grill will be ok for the testing pourpose, let's bend :-]



Fot the bottom I've used some alu bars to help me to obtain the correct bend...

 

Slowly it comes up....



I need to work more with this piece, but this is only a test piece...
SLeeving the cables :



I've used this, it's a MicroDip tube from Gardena, you csn find it in near every gardening store, the pirce is really low, 6 euros for 15 meters, ID 4mm and OD 6 mm.



The final 5 cm are without tube to allow me to do a lot of test and bending.
