In honor of Pi Day and Albert Einstein's birthday, I would like to begin a Pi mod project. Pi Day: Pi = 3.14... March 14 = 3rd Month 14th Day March 14 = Einstein's Birthday (Cool day huh?) Anyways, throw some ideas at me and I'll get some concept pictures and some intended case pictures up sometime tonight or tomorrow. Thanks ya'll!
Howabout a case in the shape of a cylinder, facing towards you? You could have a nice circular window with a pi applique or etch in the middle.... sounds like a cool project! David
A little bit more extream, you could make a model of Einsteins head, and put a computer inside of it, lol. Have the eyes be translucent so you could possibly have some red LED's behind it. And if its big enough, have a slot load cd drive lined up so that you put cd's into his mouth, that would be pretty awsome. But I have a feeling that absolutely no one would ever do that.
With a little creativity you could turn this into a side window cut out. OK, a little creativity and alot of patience and talent
linear engraved albert einsteins head into a piece of plexi with a dremel a long while back, prolly 2-3 years ago
or carve a nice apple pi(e) on the other side... ;-) have an LCD continuously display the digits to the right of the decimal point...let it keep going and going and going here is a nice web site with interesting pi facts...might give you some ideas....I especially like the relationship between pi and lightspeed...the pyramids too http://www.terravista.pt/guincho/1219/1a_index_uk.html
I might like to add that this would be my first complete modding project and I don't intend to build my own case from scratch. It would be pretty neat if someone with a lot more experience than me would also do a similar project using some more advanced ideas. I'm just gonna stick to the basics. We're talkin' like, a decent window or two, some bonus fans, and a quality paint job. I'm REALLY nub when it comes to all that circuitry mumbo jumbo, I have to say I don't know the first thing about anything I plug in (or the second, third, fourth...). I just plug it in and hope for the best. So anything requiring that kinda electronic skill will either not work and look neat, or will cost me lots of precious money. That said, heres a pic or two of my case: Free case from a friend! Screwless installation shlimyshlam and all that (kinda neat how that junk works... new to me). Ok, so now more ideas!
Threw away T3h box... (does a quick recon)... Ah... Found it on www.pcclub.com for $49.99. AthenaTech A747 Charcoal Mid Tower 300W Case Thar she blows.
What is the little door on the top? Vent or Front (top) ports? Good lookin' case! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Ah, well, if I showed you, I'd have to kill you. I'm just kidding!!! (yes I'm easily amused) Ok, I went and shot her for joo. Here goes: Just the standard 2 USBs and some audio in/out.
Not a bad case to start with. I like how they have a little mount for the PSU (yes, I'm easily amused as well). Since you want to do something more simplistic rather than a custom case, my first suggestion would be a window the shape of Pi.
cut away some of that excess metal. It will provide more space for viewing, then you should cut the window
Hehe... I'm a little hesitant about this "cut away excess metal" idea. I would agree though, theres just one too many HD bays (or maybe like two too many). Maybe to avoid the "cutting away" part, I could just get rid of the whole HD section. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to stick my HDs in one (or two) of those 5.25" bays. No? You read my mind. I'm seriously thinkin' about that Pi symbol for T3h window. I'm probably gonna throw together two 80mm fans into two of those 5.25" slots (maybe the same bay I put my HDs for some neat duel cooling action). New paint job when I'm done and if I'm feelin' lucky another top window or at least a blower. Anyways, thanks guys for the ideas! And don't hesitate to send me tons more. Also, will someone tell me if that dual 80mm and HD in the 5.25" bays idea is sound?
