This takes the well-known Redirected walking technique and shrinks the required play area significantly (straight Redirected Walking needs a good 20m x 20m square to guarantee sufficient linear distance to prevent wall-hitting without perceptible path curvature) without the requirement for node-based navigation as seen in previous works (e.g. USC 2015 reliant on stationary rotation at given nodal points to apply redirection).

The main question is whether this extreme messing with orientation during saccadic blanking is going to result in disruption to Place Neuron activation (specifically HD cells which are orientation sensitive). If the conscious visual system is fooled but other navigation systems are not, you could end up in a situation where you are completely comfortable navigating an environment, but also feel completely lost.
