So I know now that a Hub sends the data to all ports, and that a switch sends it to only the correct one. So, as im needing to upgrade, a switch will still run my network the same way right? e.g. with games and ics and stuff. Sorry if this is a dumbass question - just wanna be sure
The switch will... The switch will merely precisely direct traffic to the correct port whereas a hub broadcasts looking for its location. So by you installing a switch you will keep traffic on your backbone to a minimal. Most switches have very little configuration unless you are talking about commercial grade cisco equipment and therefore the advantages of a "managed switch" you will not have...go to www.cisco.com and see for yourself.
