Electronics Undervolting Fans

    can you actually do damage to a fan by undervolting it providing it actually starts?
    i was wondering cos some of my fans get a bit warm so less air might not cool them enuf and make them die

    The fan gets warm due to 2 things: friction and induction (current flow). By reducing the voltage, you reduce these two factors also.

    i guessed it would reduce but i thought that it might not reduce as much as the airflow so it would over heat

    I've used 7v, and even 5v for my case fans, and been running them 12-18 hours a day for the past year with no problems.... so you've got nothing to worry about.
