I have a Toshiba X200 laptop with the 8700M GT gfx card in it.
Just my luck that a month after buying, the 8800M GTX arrives and blows it clear out the water.

I wonder if these are pin-compatible though and if I might be able to upgrade my laptop?

It seems Rock direct are using identical machines to the old 770 I had with the 8700M in it but now with the 8800 instead.
And they are also offering an upgrade path by the looks of it.

So if they are pin-compatible and able to be swapped, where can I buy a 8800M GTX ready to swap in??

    TIA. :)

A lot of laptops theses days are using an standardized slot for the graphics; but the compartment might be sized differently, which could prevent you from installing the newer card.

not only the compartment , but also the efficiency and the ability of the cooling system.

They're not pin compatible on a chip level, that's for sure, but they might be compatible on an interface level though (i.e. via MXM)

Cool, can anyone think of a way of finding out, short of spunking silly money on an upgrade and never actually getting it to work? :D

Pin-compatibility is only the first hurdle, sadly. The site above should be useful to you.
They got some 8800s in stock recently, but apparently they've only managed to get a Clevo m570ru laptop to boot with it.

If your laptop is based on the Clevo m570ru then you may be in luck, otherwise you could be wasting your money.
