Evening all! So building another machine, and for the in laws parents this time, and slightly bigger budget. I've put an Artic Freezer i30 in it (definite over kill) but when I put the graphics card in, and it's all a little close, and do you lot think this will be ok?
That's fine. The i30 fan is plastic, so no shorts, and air will still get in there. That said, isn't it rotated 90 degrees from that to do front-back not side to side?
It's pointed up, have a out take fan on the top rather than the back (I was a good boy and followed the instructions)
I'd be tempted to forget the instructions and go front to back cooling. Vertical hasn't been proven to offer any benefit (despite Silverstone's claims) and your intake fan is at the front. Plus, with front to back you'll have clear airflow from the front and out the back, rather than any blockage from the GPU.
Also, why don't you route that auxiliary power cable out the back of the case and back in where it plugs in? (With the help of an 8 pin EPS extender if it is not long enough) Looks untidy this way and adds to things that restrict airflow.
Hum yeah might swap it around, and would need some more compound though... I must have a 80mm fan some where I could stick on the back to help follow...
So I did a bit more investigation this morning, and if I rotate it 90 degrees it would be even closer to the graphics card and this time it would be the metal part, think I'll stick with it as it is, save the time, effort and safety...
I don't get the point..... Why not just watercool it. Simpler, Better Performance, Cleaner, Much Better Asthetics.
If it was my pc I would, but but it's not, and water cooling would tip it over budget! Plus there's no point as not overclocking
There isn't enough roo between GPU & cooler for fan to suck air into cooler bottom to top. Go front to back with something to insulate inbetween if too close to GPU.
