    Hello

As the title says, I have a friend who forced his computer to shutdown while it was running windows update. He shut it down from windows and he thought it froze, so instead of reading on the screen (windows is updating...auto shutdown....) he pushed the power button until it died.
Problem is, when he started it again it would not boot. He have got a Dell XPS with Vista.
I connected his HDD to my desktop to recover his files, but when trying to get in to the partition, explorer would hang.

So, is there a way to recover hos files (he is working on his special in national economics) ?

    Thankyou.

download & burn an unbuntu live CD (I prefer v9.04 rather than v9.10 for this operation)
boot to it and navigate to the the drive. I can't see ubuntu linux hanging in this operation.
